PRHA History
The Petersburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority (PRHA) was formally established in December 1967 to address the city’s growing need for safe, affordable housing. With strong support from residents, the City Council, and local businesses, PRHA quickly launched. By 1969, PRHA secured federal HUD funding and developed 400 public housing units: Pecan Acres Estates, Pin Oaks Estates, and Sycamore Towers.
PRHA Today
PRHA continues to serve the community by providing housing options and homeownership support. Today we:
- Manage 69 Public Housing units
- Administer 1078 Housing Choice Vouchers
- Manage 334 PBV/LIHTC units
- Manage 100 HUD Section 202 units
- Support first-time homebuyers through the Virginia Down Payment Assistances Program (DPA)
For more than 55 years, PRHA continues to work to strengthen neighborhoods and expand housing opportunities in Petersburg.”
